Tong′s collection explores the different possibilities of being a woman by subverting the rigid gender ideals.
A playful subversion of hegemonic images of femininity and feminist, a rebellion in silence, and a new empowerment in gentleness. The power suit meets the aprons and sofas. Two of the stereotypes of women are chosen: 1950s housewives and 1980s power-dressing female leaders, being merged together, and playing with proportions and forms. Feminine details like frills, pink colour and renovated floral prints are incorporated into gentlemen′s tailoring, trousers and socks suspenders. Tong believes that being a feminist
is not equivalent to being like a man and bringing down womanliness, but to be free to choose a life and embrace the ‘fluid’ identities.
