The inspiration for my collection, ‘Hole in One’ ,comes from my paternal grandmother and great-grandmother. They both worked in male dominated environments. My great-grandmother was a county councillor in the 1950’s and my grandmother was the first female chairman of her golf club. They were both talented sportswomen. This collection is about preserving memories against and the wider context of the lives of strong and independent women.
In an effort to preserve this legacy, I looked through my grandmothers belongings and selected some items that represented her life. This inspired me to develop a technique using striped and checked fabrics and casting them in a non-toxic resin. This technique gives both structure and strength to colour and texture. I feel this symbolised the personalities that have influenced my life.
