My bad relationship with my father when I was young makes me question the effect it has on who I am now.
My father’s desire of wanting a son resulted in me pretending to be a tomboy, restricting myself from being feminine and truly me. The garments are designed to reflect my childhood experience, incorporating elements of restriction, secretiveness and masculinity.
The forced boyish behaviour is demonstrated by metal poles in the garment, restricting the wearer’s movement and desire to be feminine through vibrant embellishment and embroidery, inspired by female anatomy.
The collection is social and psychological statement, expressing my personal experiences and challenging the negative cultural and social perception and connotations of “Daddy Issues” (Oedipus complex).
